The valuation engine
How XITAD determines the residual value of your IT hardware
A reliable residual value starts with good data, not a depreciation table. The XITAD valuation engine turns your raw inventory into a substantiated, indicative residual value per asset: from an Excel export or a photo of the type labels to a complete valuation report. Not a manual estimate, but a repeatable process based on live market data.
The result is a transparent range per device, with the method and confidence included. So you know up front what your retired hardware is worth and no longer negotiate from an information disadvantage.
Intake and normalization
You submit your inventory as you have it: an Excel or CSV export, a PDF, a photo of the hardware or manual entry. The engine automatically recognizes which columns hold brand, model and quantity and deliberately ignores serial numbers, asset tags and other identifiable data. Raw, unstructured rows are normalized into a clean asset list.
Recognition and classification
Every model is recognized and placed in a hardware category, from enterprise servers and switches to laptops and mobile devices. Where possible the engine derives the release year. Each line carries a confidence score, so it is clear how certain the recognition is.
Live European market data
Instead of static depreciation tables, the engine checks every model against live transactions and listings on the European secondary market. Listings are validated on configuration and relevance, statistical outliers are removed and only comparable hardware counts. This way the price reflects today's real supply and demand.
From market price to residual value
The validated market price is converted to a value excluding VAT, corrected for the market trend and translated into a realistic B2B residual-value range from low to high. The engine factors in the liquidity of a product segment: in-demand hardware yields more than hard-to-sell models.
Unknown, defective or locked
Equipment that is defective, locked or cannot be reliably identified gets no false value. Such items are flagged separately for manual assessment or recycling. You would rather have an honest zero than an estimate that does not hold up at the physical audit.
What you receive
You get a specification per asset category: the quantities, the expected proceeds from low to high, the market demand, the method used and the confidence. On top of that the CO₂ savings and a data-risk classification per device. The full report is downloadable as the basis for your business case.
Indicative, not binding
The valuation is an automated, indicative market projection and not a binding offer. The definitive value follows after physical audit, grading and technical inspection of the hardware. Because the process is repeatable and works with fresh market data, the indication stays current and traceable.
Frequently asked questions
about valuation
How does XITAD determine the residual value of my IT hardware?
The engine normalizes your inventory, recognizes every model and checks it against live transactions on the European secondary market. From that it produces a substantiated residual-value range per asset, corrected for the market trend and the liquidity of the segment.
How accurate is the valuation?
You get an indicative range with a confidence score per line, based on the number and consistency of comparable market references. It is a projection, not a binding offer; the definitive value is set after physical audit and grading.
Which data do I need to submit?
An Excel or CSV list, a PDF, a photo of the hardware or manual entry is enough. Exports from ITAM and ERP systems such as ServiceNow, SAP or Snipe-IT are processed directly. Serial numbers or other identifiable data are not needed and are ignored.
What happens to unknown or defective equipment?
Equipment that is defective, locked or cannot be reliably identified gets no estimated value. Those items are flagged separately for manual assessment or recycling, so the report stays realistic.
How current are the market prices used?
The engine works with live market data and recalculates the value with fresh references; a scan today reflects the market today. That makes the indication traceable and not based on outdated depreciation tables.
